As the secretary for AEpiA, Dr Madhavi (Madi) Maddugoda is the point of contact for members.

Madi obtained her PhD in cell biology at the University of Queensland, Institute for Molecular Bioscience, in 2007, before heading to France as an ARC young research fellow in 2008.

At the INSERM C3M institute in Nice, she studied the interplay between cell biology, microbiology and physics during Staphylococcus aureus invasion through endothelial cellular tunnels.

Madi then returned to Sydney, Australia, to try her hand at the delicate art of adult stem cell differentiation as part of a large consortium study looking into epigenetic programming of adipocytes in diabetes and obesity. Having conducted research in a range of scientific fields, she has now turned her attention to effectively communicating scientific research and ideas using words and visuals.

Early in 2008, Sue Clark brought a handful of epigenetics researchers from Australia together to form the Australian Epigenetics Alliance. The AEpiA has now grown to a membership of over 400, with members spanning not only Australasia, but the globe.  We hosted our seventh flagship conference, Epigenetics 2017 in Brisbane, and our VIC team is busy preparing for Epigenetics 2020 in Melbourne in November – watch this space!
