Dr Mark Ziemann earned his PhD at Swinburne University, Victoria in the field of plant molecular genetics. He then completed an eight-year post doctoral position at the Baker Institute and Monash University with Prof Sam El-Osta, using next gen sequencing to study the epigenetics of complex diseases including diabetes, epilepsy and heart disease.

Currently, Mark is Lecturer of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology at Deakin University. His research group is focused on computational reproducibility, and the development of datasets and software tools to better understand gene regulation in disease.

Early in 2008, Sue Clark brought a handful of epigenetics researchers from Australia together to form the Australian Epigenetics Alliance. The AEpiA has now grown to a membership of over 600, with members spanning not only Australasia, but the globe.  In February 2021, our Victorian local organising committee hosted our eighth flagship Epigenetics conference, online for the first time.  Our NSW team is now busy preparing for Epigenetics 2022, which will be held in September in Kingscliff, NSW.
